Yes, I know it’s been forever since I’ve had a meaningful blog post. Here’s just a small list of what’s been keeping me busy:
- New furnace
- Painting the living room, dining room, kitchen, and upstairs bathroom
- Landscaping, gardening, and general yard work
- Taking three classes
- Leading a few huge projects at work that will last through Q1 2008
- Cathedral council, youth group, and church things
- My sister’s announced move to Atlanta and her engagement
- Visting Home Depot, Lowes, Costco, or Target multiple times a day to get things I need
- Getting a new roof
I’m sure that’s not an all inclusive list, but that’s been my life for the last month. Pictures of some of the finished rooms will be posted soon!
So last week was moving week. The actual move date was last Saturday, during the Easter weekend blizzard. Luckily it wasn’t too bad and the movers did a great job just like the last time we used them.
So far it’s rather surreal to actually know that we own a home. After renting for so long, it still sometimes feels as if this belongs to someone else. But I’m sure that will pass soon enough.
I had all last week off just to work on cleaning, unpacking, painting, and shopping for house stuff. Although I must say I got a very good deal at Lowe’s for all my out door yard and garden items.
We painted the dining room and I have to say I’m very pleased with the color. Once we’re finished unpacking in there I’ll be sure to post pictures. Only seven more rooms to paint.
Having never owned a home before, there are so many things that need to be purchased. Lawn and garden equipment, home maintenance tools, and more furniture top the list.
This weekend Adam and I went shopping for a new washer and dryer. The house currently has them, but they’re old and we really wanted a more efficient front loading washer. We got an outstanding deal at Home Depot with delivery scheduled soon after we move in.
Staying in the realm of being environmentally friendly, we purchased an electric lawn mower. It’s smaller, but it’s perfect for our yard which itself is small. It also means less hassle than dealing with gas and oil, less polution from exhaust, and it’s so much quieter.
It’s amazing to think of all the other things that we still need to buy. Luckily I had considered all this earlier, but it’s easy to see how people can get in over their heads if they don’t think about it.
Daylight saving time is here, three weeks early. I absolutely love when we get to move the clocks forward an hour. There’s just something about having that extra daylight in the evening that makes me feel happy. Perhaps it’s the anticipation of Spring.
Only 4 weeks until we move into our new house and still so much to do to get ready.
This morning Adam and I went to sign all the papers to close on our new house. All the signing and initialing made me feel like I had signed away every last bit my life. In the end it was all good.
About 5:00 PM tonight I got the call that the title had officially transferred so we are now truly homeowners. Oh, and landlords, since the previous owner will be there until the end of March. I’m excited to move soon.
So all in all, it was a good birthday.
As the time to close on our new house is getting closer, I’m both excited and terrified at the same time.
The terrified part comes from all the buyers remorse and second guessing that comes with spending that much money. Did we really make the best choice? Will we really be able to afford it? And all those other questions that go along with a big purchase
Of course I know that we can afford it and we found a perfect house in the city where we wanted to live. We were really lucky to find something for such a great deal and the entire process so far has been rather painless.
But mostly I’m excited to finally be a homeowner.
