Living in a city like Lakewood, there’s always something progressive going on where the citizens are empowered to make positive change. One example is the Lakewood Earth and Food Community, LEAF.
LEAF does a number of interesting things from soil building to community gardening to nutrition education. They also sponsor local CSA’s, Community Supported Agriculture, programs in Lakewood. These programs bring fresh produce weekly from local farms right to the city.
Adam and I are participating in one this season and we’re pretty excited about it. Not only will it help us eat better, but we’ll get the thrill of trying out vegetables and fruit we may not have had before.
St. Louis was a lot of fun, the trip getting there was not. Adam and I arrived at the airport around 7:00 am on Thursday to discover the new ban on liquids and gels and the increased security line that went all the way through the terminal.
However, once in St. Louis all was good. We had a ton of fun with Eric and Kristin and got to see many of the city’s cool sites and eat at a bunch of good restaurants. Adam did a good job of writing up each day there so take a look.
Sometimes I like to drink a little chamomile tea before bed to help me relax. Of course nothing goes better with it than some good sugar-free imitation honey.

I’ve been buying Smucker’s natural peanut butter the last few times I’ve gone to the grocery store. You know, the kind where the oil separates and you have to mix it up yourself. I love it, but there is one thing I don’t like and that’s needing to store it in the refrigerator. I just hate cold peanut butter.
Well I began wondering if it was really necessary to keep it in there after opening so I went to the Smucker’s website and e-mailed the question to their customer service team. Within one hour of sending it, someone called me at home with the response. I was amazed at how responsive they were.
And the answer is no, you don’t have to keep it stored in the refrigerator.

One of our favorite restaurants in the area is The Diner on Clifton. There is always something great on the menu and it has great atmosphere. A few months back it was closed due to a fire and we were worried it wasn’t going to reopen. But recently our fears were laid to rest.
This weekend we went back for dinner. I had a yummy gorgonzola burger and sweet potato fries. For desert a nice piece of mocha chocolate cheesecake.
If you’re ever in the Cleveland/Lakewood area I definitely recommend you check it out.

Tonight was family dinner night, a tradition that I began a few months ago. Basically every Sunday my family in Cleveland will rotate dinner around to each others house and it’s worked pretty well so far. Tonight it was my turn to host dinner.
It’s always difficult to try and come up with something to make that is different or at the very least wasn’t something made recently. Tonight I was looking through Betty Crocker’s New Choices for Two cookbook and ran across two healthy and tasty dishes that I made this evening. The main course was Olive Paprika Penne which had green, pimento-stuffed olives instead of the usual black. For the side dish I made Parmesan Sweet Potato Rounds. Both were very well received.
I’ll be waiting for my Food Network contract to come in the mail.
