The expense of homeownership

Having never owned a home before, there are so many things that need to be purchased. Lawn and garden equipment, home maintenance tools, and more furniture top the list.

This weekend Adam and I went shopping for a new washer and dryer. The house currently has them, but they’re old and we really wanted a more efficient front loading washer. We got an outstanding deal at Home Depot with delivery scheduled soon after we move in.

Staying in the realm of being environmentally friendly, we purchased an electric lawn mower. It’s smaller, but it’s perfect for our yard which itself is small. It also means less hassle than dealing with gas and oil, less polution from exhaust, and it’s so much quieter.

It’s amazing to think of all the other things that we still need to buy. Luckily I had considered all this earlier, but it’s easy to see how people can get in over their heads if they don’t think about it.

You’ll have to let me know how the electric mower works out. I’m going to start looking for a home soon as well and am hoping that my yard will be tame-able by one.

I completely know what you passed through now that you bought you own house, We bought an apartment last December and was really exciting however was a smaller apart than the one we were living in before so exactly the half, with two less bedrooms and two less bathrooms… I made magic in order to make things fit in there, of course most of the furnitures didn’t even fit so we need to order them to be made with the carpenter… Yes, costumized furniture because were we live there’s no Home Depot, Ikea or whatsoever.

    CONGRATS FOR YOUR OWN HOME!!
