Yesterday I ordered my new MacBook from Apple.com. I ordered the 2.0 Ghz white version. Besides the fact that I feel the black version is “un-Apple” I just can’t fathom spending $200 more just for black. It’s expected ship date is June 13th but I’m hoping for sooner.
It will affectionately be called Claudius. Courtney becomes the proud new owner of my old G4 iBook, take care of Tiberius for me.
Congratulations on your new “girl”. She’ll serve you very well for many years I’m sure.
Carla - Claudius is a male name, so Bryan’s latest purchase is actually a competitor for Adam
Bryan - I disagree about the black being un-Apple solely because the designers saw how obsessively popular the black iPods were and followed the demand. There are always design phases to keep in check. I’m sure there was backlash against Apple when the iMac G4 was not offered in an array of colors. The black option may also be a new arm (or perhaps only an extension) of Apple’s hardware offerings. Either way, I think it’s an incredibly well-proposed move.
Congratulations Bryan. Isn’t this your third laptop? You go through laptops faster than anyone I know.
I can’t say I blame you though. The new MacBooks are quite tempting.
Ryan: You could be right about the black color, but to me I identify Apple’s computers with white so it will probably just take time. I also struggled with the Intel transition at first but I came around
.
Armen: My laptop transition did seem fast. My original was the 14″ iBook that Ryan eventually ended up with. I only got rid of it because I bought a desktop and didn’t really need a laptop. But then situations changed and I saw the value of needing a small, portable laptop so I purchased a 12″ iBook G4 last time I was in Boston visiting Jeremiah.
I liked it alot but when the new MacBooks came out I saw the possibility of adding bootcamp and Windows XP onto one machine for those rare times when I needed Windows or Internet Explorer for something. This lets me get rid of my Dell if all goes well so one less computer taking up space.
And to be honest, I love the new keyboards on the MacBooks. I would trade up for that alone if there were no other improvements.
I will certainly take good care of the G4 iBook. I’m very excited about the bequeathal! Enjoy Claudius; I’m sure it, too, will be great.
