Pencil me in

Google released Google Calendar today. It’s definitely pretty nice. I had been trying 30boxes but I was never very impressed with its visual appearance. I’m very happy with it.

Also I ordered a Dell Axim X51v PDA in an effort to better organize my life. Adam tells me I can sync it with my Lotus Notes at work which is nice. The built-in bluetooth and WiFi makes me even happier.

um, I designed the 30b appearance and happen to like it a lot -)

What is it with insurance companies and IBM’s Lotus Notes anyway? That has to be the ugliest creation of man God ever had to set eyes on.

Syncing with the Dell should be nice, but I see it only has 801.11b wireless, which means it wouldn’t connect to our corporate WLAN at work and would forever have me enabling legacy settings on my wireless stuff at home.

The rest of it seems pretty nice. Are you gonna buy a cradle for home sync too or use the bluetooth with your Mac? I haven’t had much experience syncing Windows Mobile with Mac, but when I did two years ago after paying $30 for some software it became a great sync citizen.

Narendra: There are definitely some great things about 30boxes that I’ll miss. As for the visual appearance, it just doesn’t appeal to me, but everyone has their own aesthetic and you’ll never please everyone. But I will give you kudos on your design even if it’s not my style. )

    Brandon:
Our home network is already running 802.11b compatible so that’s not so much of an issue and of course all public WiFi spots support legacy devices. As for work, we don’t use WiFi at this point. They’re psychotic about security so it may be awhile before we get that.

I won’t actually be able to sync at home yet. I used to have the original Axim a few years back and bought the sync software for Mac and it worked pretty well. Unfortunately at this point there’s no syncing software that works with Windows Mobile 5. mark/space is working on it though. I just wish Apple would get off their butts and build support into iSync especially given the number of smart phones out there that run Windows Mobile.

The most important thing to me though was to get my calendar and todo’s from work. Mail is not so important to me but I guess it will be nice to have my inbox. As for my personal info, I’m not too concerned about contacts since those are all in my phone and iPod and online at .Mac. And as for iCal, I plan on migrating to Google Calendar which means I can update it every time I’ve got a WiFi signal.
