Well Macworld is over and as expected there were a slew of great announcements. New hardware, the customary 20 minutes spent on the “new and improved” iPhoto with a total of 5 minutes spent on the rest of the iLife apps combined, and of course Steve’s mock turtleneck.
Overall I was impressed and surprised by some announcements. I was not expecting the iMac to be the first Intel Mac I would have guessed the Mac mini. I can’t believe they’re two times faster than the current iMacs.
Of course then there’s the tragedy of the death of the venerable Powerbook line. The replacement is, at least in my opinion, the poorly named Macbook Pro. The Macbook…that name just doesn’t convey the beauty that was inspired by a Powerbook. Oh well, maybe it will grow on me.
Of course I’ve already ordered copies of iLife and iWork ‘06. I should have them by Thursday or Friday.

“death of the PowerBook line”? The MacBook Pro is the latest 15″ PowerBook equivalent. But, since it is the first of the transition to portable Intel-Mac machines, they can’t stick to the “Power…” naming scheme that was based on the PowerPC architecture. Jobs explains this in the Keynote. “MacBook” still hasn’t settled well with me, but I think it is a nice accompanying move to further distance that portion of the Apple setup from the IBM generation. I think this will develop nicely over time. So, yeah. Let me know how the new iPhoto is because that is the only reason why I would actually get iLife’06
Well technically the Powerbook line is gone, and I’ll say that the Macbook product is definitely a worthy sucecssor. I just question the name “Macbook”. Just doesn’t seem elegant to me.
As for iPhoto, I’ll definitely let you know. It’s really the only reason I buy iLife as well.
It’s not true that they couldn’t have stuck with Power, since the first PowerBooks didn’t even have PowerPC processors.
